iOS 18.2 officially released: New apple intelligence features, ChatGPT integration
This app allows users to create "fun images in seconds" by entering text, offering two styles: Cartoon and Illustration. An additional Sketch style is expected in a future software update.
Aside from being a standalone app, Image Playground will also integrate directly with apps like Messages and Mail.
GenmojiiOS 18.2 introduces the Genmoji feature. This Apple Intelligence tool enables users to create custom emojis based on text descriptions. Apple describes this feature as follows:
"Taking emojis to a whole new level, users can create unique Genmojis to express themselves. Simply type a description, and Genmoji will appear with additional options. Users can even create Genmojis of friends and family based on their photos. Like standard emojis, Genmojis can be added directly to messages or shared as stickers."
ChatGPT integrationWhen interacting with Siri on iOS 18.2, users have the option to access ChatGPT. According to Apple, Siri "leverages ChatGPT's knowledge when needed," including answering questions about world knowledge and understanding images or documents.
Users can log in to their ChatGPT accounts via the Settings app and disable prompts that appear when Siri switches a request to ChatGPT. However, Apple emphasizes that using ChatGPT or logging in is not mandatory.
Writing tools upgradesChatGPT is also integrated with the Writing Tools feature, offering a new "Compose" option for generating text on selected topics. Additionally, the image tool within ChatGPT can create images "in various styles."
A new "describe your changes" feature in Writing Tools allows users to specify the adjustments they want Apple Intelligence to make to their text.
Visual intelligenceFor iPhone 16 users, iOS 18.2 includes a new Visual Intelligence feature introduced last month. By pressing and holding the camera control button, users can activate this mode to learn more about objects around them.
Users can take a photo of an object to search for similar images on Google or send the photo to ChatGPT for more information.
Image wandIn the Notes app, the Image Wand feature transforms rough sketches into complete images by circling them. Users can even circle blank spaces in a note, and Image Wand will gather contextual information from the surrounding area to generate relevant images, enhancing the note’s visual appeal.
Apple Intelligence now supports local English variants in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa, Ireland, and the United Kingdom, in addition to U.S. English.
Users can download iOS 18.2 starting today.
